ECU Seeks Experienced Sonographers for Teaching Medical Imaging

Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Perth, Australia, is looking to recruit experienced sonographers to join their team as sessional tutors/demonstrators for the Medical Sonography program at the School of Medical and Health Sciences, located at the Joondalup campus.

Since its inception in February 2024, the Medical Sonography course at ECU has provided a comprehensive 4-year program accredited by the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR). Graduates of this program acquire essential knowledge and skills in various areas such as anatomy, physiology, ultrasound imaging systems, patient care, critical thinking, ultrasound physics, and professional practice.

The university is specifically seeking individuals who are accredited medical sonographers with a minimum of five years of post-qualification experience in a clinical setting. Prospective candidates should possess a deep understanding of the Professional Competency Framework for Sonographers and have demonstrated experience in training student sonographers either in a clinical or academic environment. It is essential for applicants to stay updated on the latest developments in ultrasound imaging technology and scanning techniques.

Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching students scanning skills, relational anatomy using simulation equipment, psychomotor skills, and comparative imaging. Additionally, they will engage in discussions on clinical case studies, conduct practical assessments, and participate in assessment moderation.

This casual teaching position offers competitive remuneration along with a 11.5% University superannuation contribution. Interested individuals are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Afrooz Najafzadeh Abriz, the Course Coordinator, for further information on the role. To apply, candidates must submit their resume, proof of ASAR accreditation, and a cover letter outlining their interest and suitability for the position by the closing date of March 31, 2025.

It is important to note that applications will be considered only from candidates who have the necessary working rights to fulfill the requirements of the position. ECU promotes diversity and inclusivity in its workplace and actively encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are particularly encouraged to apply.

In conclusion, ECU’s search for experienced sonographers to contribute to the teaching of medical imaging underscores the university’s commitment to providing high-quality education in the field of Medical Sonography while fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
