Amid an atmosphere of celebration, the Kansas City Pregnancy Clinic in Merriam marked a significant milestone on June 7 by unveiling its newest addition – a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine. The event, graced by Archbishop Emeritus Joseph F. Naumann, saw the machine being blessed and dedicated in a room named in honor of the archbishop’s late mother, Louise Naumann.
This ultrasound machine, the 36th of its kind funded by the Knights of Columbus in Kansas, underscores a broader initiative dating back to 2009. The Knights have tirelessly raised funds to equip pregnancy resource centers nationwide with these vital devices. Valued at approximately $44,000, this latest machine symbolizes a commitment to providing essential services to expectant mothers in the local community.
Operational since November 2024, the clinic’s second location exceeded expectations by opening well ahead of schedule. Offering an array of services including pregnancy testing, counseling, and education on various options, the clinic stands as a beacon of support for women facing critical decisions. Moreover, the facility extends services such as presumptive Medicaid eligibility, ensuring access to prenatal care for uninsured clients.
During the clinic’s open house, Donna Kelsey, the volunteer executive director, emphasized the significance of the ultrasound room’s dedication to Louise Naumann. Archbishop Naumann, in turn, invoked the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Anthony of Padua in blessing the new machine, highlighting the sanctity of life and the clinic’s mission to offer compassionate care to women in need.
In his address, Archbishop Naumann expressed gratitude to the Knights of Columbus for their unwavering support in championing the cause of life through technology. Acknowledging the visionary leadership of Donna and Ron Kelsey, who have spearheaded the establishment of multiple clinics in the archdiocese, the archbishop commended their dedication and foresight in expanding access to critical services.
Representatives from the Knights of Columbus State Council, Doug Wietharn, and Denis Juenger, lauded the clinic’s efforts, emphasizing the pivotal role of volunteers in sustaining these vital services. Juenger highlighted the Knights’ role in providing equipment while underscoring the invaluable contributions of dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to support women in crisis.
The event underscored the profound impact of collaborative efforts in fostering a culture of life within the community. Archbishop Naumann’s blessings and remarks resonated with attendees, reaffirming the clinic’s commitment to upholding the dignity of every life and providing a sanctuary of care and compassion for expectant mothers.
As the Kansas City Pregnancy Clinic continues to expand its reach and services, the legacy of support and advocacy for life embodied by the Knights of Columbus and dedicated individuals like the Kelseys serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity for women navigating the complexities of pregnancy and motherhood.
