Johnson & Johnson’s MedTech division has introduced the Soundstar Crystal ultrasound catheter for intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) imaging in cardiac ablation procedures in the United States. This advanced 2D ICE catheter offers clearer and enhanced image quality, setting it apart from other ICE catheters on the market.
According to Amin Al-Ahmad from St David’s HealthCare in Austin, USA, the Soundstar Crystal ultrasound catheter delivers impressive visualizations, tissue definition, and far-field imaging. Al-Ahmad noted the seamless integration with the Carto 3 system, which simplifies anatomical mapping and procedure workflows.
Integrated with Johnson & Johnson’s Carto 3 mapping system, the Soundstar Crystal catheter streamlines workflow efficiency. The Cartosound FAM module, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), enhances mapping capabilities, simplifying the anatomical mapping process for electrophysiologists performing cardiac ablation procedures.
Jasmina Brooks, the president of electrophysiology at J&J MedTech, highlighted the catheter’s superior image quality, improved maneuverability, and stability. The integration with the Carto 3 system aims to enable a zero-fluoroscopy workflow, enhancing safety and effectiveness for both healthcare professionals and patients.
The Soundstar Crystal ultrasound catheter joins J&J’s portfolio of ultrasound solutions, complementing the Nuvision catheter, which utilizes advanced 4D imaging for procedures like left atrial appendage closure (LAAC).
Philips has also introduced the VeriSight Pro 3D ICE catheter in Europe, expanding the options available for cardiac procedures. Additionally, J&J MedTech presented new data on Omny-IRE and VARIPURE studies at HRS 2025, demonstrating ongoing advancements in the field.
Volta Medical recently appointed Bill Hoffman as the executive chairman of its board of directors, signaling strategic developments in the industry. These advancements underscore the continuous innovation and evolution within the field of cardiac rhythm management.
As technology continues to advance, the integration of AI and enhanced imaging capabilities is revolutionizing cardiac procedures, offering improved outcomes and safety for patients. The introduction of innovative catheters like the Soundstar Crystal and VeriSight Pro 3D ICE underscores the commitment of companies like Johnson & Johnson and Philips to driving progress in cardiac care.
With experts like Amin Al-Ahmad and industry leaders such as Jasmina Brooks at the forefront of these advancements, the future of cardiac ablation procedures looks promising, with a focus on precision, efficiency, and patient well-being.
