Diagnostic services at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla have once again come under scrutiny due to long waiting periods for tests like MRI, CT scan, and ultrasound. Patients are reportedly facing delays of up to a month for critical tests, putting their health at risk, particularly in cases involving neurological disorders, cancers, heart ailments, and trauma.

Activist Raises Concerns

Sonepur-based social activist Udaynath Swain raised concerns about the inadequate and untimely availability of diagnostic services at VIMSAR. In a grievance to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Swain highlighted the plight of poor patients who cannot afford private diagnostic centers and urged the government to take immediate steps to strengthen diagnostic services in state-run hospitals.

Persistent Issues at VIMSAR

VIMSAR authorities have responded to the concerns by stating that efforts are being made to ensure the timely maintenance and uninterrupted functioning of diagnostic equipment. While two CT scan machines are operational round-the-clock, a new MRI machine is set to be installed soon. However, the shortage of manpower remains a major hurdle in extending 24x7 facilities for ultrasound tests.
