Thanks to a generous £2.1 million donation from Sir Ka-shing Li, a philanthropist based in Hong Kong, the hospital was able to acquire the Edison Histotripsy System from HistoSonics, a US-based company. The system utilizes pulsed sound waves to create “bubble clouds” in targeted tissue, destroying tumors without the need for invasive surgery or radiation.
Dr. Teik Choon See, a consultant interventional radiologist at Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH), demonstrated the effectiveness of the histotripsy system, highlighting its potential to treat primary and secondary liver tumors.
