Objectives

The Australian Sonographers Association (ASA),  the peak body and leading voice for songraphers, was formed in 1992 in response to the desire of sonographers across Australia for an organisation which had as its charter, to exclusively consider the issues confronting and challenging sonographers in the modern environment. The ASA now has a membership of over 2,800, including corporate members whose support demonstrates a commitment to promoting best practice. The ASA has pledged to pursue high standards within the practice of medical sonography.

The 2009/10 Annual Report highlights the exceptional achievements of the ASA and it's members.

Our core objectives are to:

  • provide continuing education for sonographers
  • promote best practice in sonography
  • advocate members' interests and raise the profile of the profession
  • provide a forum for communication
  • provide member services and benefits

The 2008-2012 Strategic Plan reflects the ASA's vision, highlighting the key strategies identified to achieve these objectives.

governance

The ASA has a structure that includes a Board of Directors and multiple State representative branches.

  • The principles under which the ASA is governed are reflected in the ASA Constitution.
  • The ASA recognises its obligation to promote best practice in diagnostic medical ultrasound. All members agree to promote the objectives and comply with the rules set out in the new Code of Professional Conduct which commenced on 1 July 2010. All 2010/11 new and renewing members will be required to acknowledge their compliance with this Code as part of the renewal or joining process

Nominations for the ASA’s Board of Directors – now closed

One of the most worthwhile contributions you can make as a professional is to volunteer your time for the advancement of your profession.  As an ASA Director, you will learn new skills whilst developing a broad understanding of the Association and benefit from making new and lasting connections with your peers. Of course, it also provides you with an alternative opportunity to accrue CPD points.

Five General Directorship positions were declared vacant at the Annual General Meeting on 28 May 2010:

  • Four positions for a period of two years expiring at the Annual General Meeting in May 2012
  • One position as the result of the mid-term resignation of a current director and is therefore for a period of one year, expiring at the Annual General Meeting in May 2011.

All positions are subject to the provisions of the Association’s Constitution. All current Directors whose terms are expiring are eligible to re-nominate.

Nominations closed at 5pm EST on Tuesday 13 April 2010.
