The Australian Sonographers Association (ASA), the peak body and leading voice for songraphers, was formed in 1992 in response to the desire of sonographers across Australia for an organisation which had as its charter, to exclusively consider the issues confronting and challenging sonographers in the modern environment. The ASA now has a membership of over 2,800, including corporate members whose support demonstrates a commitment to promoting best practice. The ASA has pledged to pursue high standards within the practice of medical sonography.

The ASA has a structure that includes a Board of Directors and multiple State representative branches.
One of the most worthwhile contributions you can make as a professional is to volunteer your time for the advancement of your profession. As an ASA Director, you will learn new skills whilst developing a broad understanding of the Association and benefit from making new and lasting connections with your peers. Of course, it also provides you with an alternative opportunity to accrue CPD points.
Five General Directorship positions were declared vacant at the Annual General Meeting on 28 May 2010:
