OH&S

Welcome to the ASA Occupational, Health, Safety and Rehabilitation (OHS&R) website.

With musculoskeletal injuries affecting over 95% of Sonographers in Australia (results of a survey in 1999) this type of injury is having an impact on our profession. As members of a professional body we must work to change our work practices and environment to make our workplaces safer.

This website includes links to state and federal websites that contain up to date information on the legislation you work under and other interesting articles. The 'soundergonomic' website provides a wealth on information and I encourage you to use this site. The 'Guidelines for Reducing Injuries to Sonographer/Sonologists' are available on line. These guidelines endorsed by both ASA and ASUM provide a base line for reducing injuries and offer information on room set up, equipment, ergonomics for the sonographer/sonologist and workload and scheduling. Interesting articles and information will also be listed.

The ASA has an OH&S committee. The members are Lynette Hassall, Bernadette Mason, Carolyn Hummerston and Val Gregory.

We hope this website works for you and welcome your input.
